– We are finally at a stage where we are ready to take full advantage of a membership in GCE Ocean Technology, says Geir Arne Solheim from Havkraft which is one of 13 new members that have joined our cluster during the first six months of 2021.

– Being a start-up for a long period of time requires patience and a lot of goodwill, and we have gotten a lot of goodwill from GCE Ocean Technology over the years, says Geir Arne Solheim from Havkraft who became member of the cluster in February.

Valuable New Members

13 companies have joined GCE Ocean Technology in the first six months of 2021 and the cluster now comprises of 133 partners and members.

Knowit joined the cluster in January. They combine expertise in design and communication, management consulting, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and IT/Digitalization.

– We want to assist members of the cluster with reaching their goals, within digitization, streamlining processes, service design and marketing, or in projects with an ML/AI scope, says Kristin Sand Bakken, Head of Ocean Industries in Knowit (photo). – We are active cluster members, and in our minds, one of the keys to success is sharing knowhow and project insight. And the sharing of data that can help the cluster as a whole forward.

Why Cluster

International research shows that business clusters lead to higher employment, greater economic growth and improved productivity and innovation in terms of new technology, new products and services more often takes place inside an industry cluster than outside.

– The best part (of joining a cluster) is to have the possibility to extend the network possibilities around core competence areas of ocean-based technology. That allows us to build multidirectional relationships to shipbuilding/ marine, aquaculture, subsea, oil/ gas, renewables and similar markets with focus on innovation and based on existing challenges, explained Rene Jenensch Product Manager- Cranes, Palfinger Marine Norway (photo) when we interviewed him recently in our column Cluster Insight.

A Flying Start

Three of our new members: Palfinger Marine, Seanovent Engineering, Rental Technology & Services, were also included in the cluster’s Ocean Crossover programme once becoming a member. Through this programme they will receive help with approaching the expansion into a new market in a structured and methodical manner.
