Gain a Broader Understanding of the Energy Transition
Do you work with the energy transition, or is it starting to affect your work? Then this new continuing education course from the University of Bergen may be relevant for you.
The Faculty of Science and Technology at UiB now offers a new and digital interdisciplinary part-time course on energy transition and sustainability.
The course gives 10 ECTS credits and is designed for professionals who want better insight, a wider perspective and a clearer understanding of what the energy transition really involves.
The energy transition requires interdisciplinary competence. With this course, we give participants a holistic understanding of the interplay between technology, politics, natural resources, law and economics, Atle Rotevatn (photo), Head of Department and Professor of Geoscience at the University of Bergen.

For professionals working in a changing energy landscape
The energy transition is not only about technology. It is also about natural resources, politics, law, economics, ethics and the choices we make as a society.
That is why the course takes a broad approach. Participants will gain insight into both the technological and societal drivers of change, and learn more about how regulations, resource availability and political choices shape the development of a more sustainable energy system.
Key topics include:
- drivers and goals in the transition to a low-emission society
- climate change, responsibility and burden sharing
- renewable energy, energy storage and subsurface storage
- critical resources, technology and digitalisation, including hydrogen, CCS and AI
- legal and regulatory frameworks
- the energy transition from a societal, political and economic perspective
Can you take it while working?
Yes.
The course is fully digital and offered as a part-time study programme. This makes it possible to combine with work. There will also be an optional physical gathering in Bergen for those who would like to attend.
