How do you go from idea to scalable business?

In a recent webinar hosted by Tekna Entrepreneurship, GCE Ocean Technology CEO Owe Hagesæther shared lessons from more than 30 years of working with technology companies and entrepreneurs.

His message was clear from the start: successful companies start with the problem, not the product.

Key takeaways:

  • Don’t fall in love with your product. Fall in love with the customer problem
  • Innovation is not just a good idea. It is an idea that customers are willing to pay for
  • The team is one of the most important factors for success. The right team can solve problems, adapt, and execute

24 steps to entrepreneurship

Hagesæther also introduced the 24 steps of disciplined entrepreneurship, developed at MIT.

Before scaling, companies must define their market, understand their customers, and validate real demand, it seems logical, but very few do it. Scaling too early increases costs without creating growth.

During the webinar, he shared insights from mentoring companies through structured startup and growth programmes such as ScaleupNow, offered by GCE Ocean Technology.

These programmes help companies sharpen their market focus, validate their value proposition, and prepare for scaling.

The methodology builds on disciplined entrepreneurship and includes a dedicated module at the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship in Boston.

The webinar was hosted by Tekna Entrepreneurship and recorded at their studio in Oslo. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our experience and perspectives with Tekna’s members.
