Helping companies secure grid connections: – It used to be much easier
– We push the grid companies a bit and moderate the customer, says the CEO of Æge Energy.
This article is written by Jan M. Moberg and sourced from Teknisk Ukeblad:
– At times, perhaps unrealistic amounts are being requested, says CEO Ole Kristian Jacobsen of Æge Energy.
The company assists businesses across Norway that apply for access to grid connection and electricity.
In this week’s episode of the Teknisk sett podcast, we speak with Jacobsen and the company’s CTO, Jonas Alexandersson.
Not exactly straightforward
And no, it is not always easy to be an industrial company or a data center in need of a grid connection.
On the contrary, the process can resemble a veritable obstacle course. First and foremost, there are physical, regulatory, and technological barriers to navigate.
But how tactical should applicants be? And how well must the applicant and the grid company get to know each other’s operations and challenges for the application to hit the mark?
– We help applicants better understand the challenges. We manage the communication with the grid company and provide advice, Jacobsen explains.
Specialized advice
Alexandersson and Jacobsen outline what is important when a company applies for grid connection. Their experience shows that being specialized in this particular process can be highly beneficial.
It is especially advantageous to understand the grid companies’ situation and status – and how they think.
At the same time, applicants need solid insight into queue systems and maturity assessments, along with deep regulatory expertise.
– Regulatory knowledge is perhaps where our customers struggle the most, says Jacobsen.
He also adds:
– It used to be much easier.
The episode also touches on what the large-scale expansion of data centers means for the market, and how batteries may become a highly supportive technology in the future.
