Wants Local Players Involved in Offshore Wind Expansion

Wind Catching Demo invites suppliers to an industry day in Øygarden – and aims to work with companies from the West coast region as their new offshore wind technology takes shape.
As Wind Catching Demo prepares for the next stage in developing its unique offshore wind solution, the company is turning its attention to Western Norway.
On 29 October, the project will host a supplier day together with the cluster GCE Ocean Technology.
The goal is to tap into the region’s strong maritime and offshore expertise.
– We want to collaborate with companies in the region and across Western Norway. Here we find the experience and competence we need to build a new industry, says Mari Bjørnø, Business Developer at Wind Catching System.
Local ripple effects
The event represents an opportunity for businesses to position themselves as suppliers to a forward-looking offshore wind industry.
Potential contributions include construction and civil works, electrical installations, subsea services, logistics, site security, environmental and wildlife assessments, and other support services.
– This is a unique opportunity for local suppliers to connect directly with a player that can create significant ripple effects in the region, says Atle Dåvøy, Innovation Manager at GCE Ocean Technology.

New technology – new opportunities
Wind Catching Demo is a new offshore wind concept where multiple turbines are mounted within a large offshore frame.
The solution is designed to produce more power in a smaller area and at lower cost compared to traditional turbines.
The project aims to build much of its supply chain in Norway – particularly on the west coast, where the industry already has high competence in offshore and marine installations.
Inviting local businesses
The supplier day will be held at Straume Technology Centre on Sotra, but the event is open to all companies in the region interested in learning more about the opportunities.
– We are eager to meet both established companies and new players who see a role for themselves in offshore wind. This could mark the beginning of important collaborations, says Mari Bjørnø at Wind Catching System.
