Scaling with discipline
It’s fascinating how just four days can completely change your mindset and the way you see your company. It’s been absolutely mind-blowing, says Stine Sætran Halhjem, CFO and Assisting CEO at Atterås.
They are one of the seven Norwegian scaleups that are wrapping up an intense and inspiring week at MIT — learning to grow with discipline and scale with purpose.
— We’re bringing home so many valuable insights that we can’t wait to start working on, so it’s been an incredibly rewarding experience for Atterås to be part of this scaleup program says Stine.
The second gathering in this year’s ScaleupNow program is taking place at the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship in Boston.
Led by Bill Aulet, Professor of the Practice at MIT Sloan, serial entrepreneur and author of Disciplined Entrepreneurship, the sessions focus on structure, focus, and the art of scaling with purpose.
Bill challenges every assumption in the room. He asks questions that rarely have one right answer — often “wrong” — to make participants reflect on their thinking and approach.

Through sharp storytelling, the participants have met the world’s Giovannis and Lauras — distinct customer personas that remind everyone why hyperfocusing on one target market matters, and why you should never, ever chase two rabbits at once.
— We’ve been a bit unsure about what the right growth strategy for Nortech AI would be, says Marius Arnesen, Senior Business Developer at Nortech AI.
He explains — This week at MIT has made us think differently about the process and realize we need to take a few steps back to adjust our strategy. We met some resistance to parts of our thinking, and that’s exactly what led to a small breakthrough in how we see the road ahead.
The companies participating in this year’s ScaleupNow programme are Dynamon, Really, Nortech AI, Amundsen Diving, Atterås, Viridien and BSI Offshore.
These companies are already growing, but during ScaleupNow they take the time to re-evaluate, refocus, and grow smarter.
With guidance from mentors at PwC, GCE Ocean Technology and support from Sparebanken Norge by Agenda Vestlandet, the teams complete their MIT week now — ready to continue their disciplined growth journey in the next gatherings later this year.
