Norwegian subsea technology sets a new world record

This week, at Nyhamna in Aukra, a new subsea compression system was officially opened. The system will be used to increase gas recovery from the Ormen Lange field, Norway’s second-largest gas field.
It enables recovery to rise from 75 to 85 percent by creating pressure directly on the seabed – 900 meters below the surface, without the use of a platform.
Norwegian Minister of Energy, Terje Aasland called it “solutions we only recently thought impossible.”
SLB OneSubsea has been the main contractor for the subsesa deliveries, while Aker Solutions has carried out the modifications at Nyhamna.
Together with a strong Norwegian supply chain, they have delivered technology that extends the lifetime of Ormen Lange – and secures more energy for Europe.
This is a milestone for Shell and Ormen Lange Phase 3 and proof that Norwegian subsea expertise continues to deliver world-class deepwater solutions.
Subsea made simple within 3 days
This October we’ll spend a full day at OneSubsea, diving into the basics of subsea deliveries.
So if you are:
- New to subsea
- Moving into subsea from another discipline
- Or an experienced engineer who needs a refresher
Join our three-day Subsea Next course.
We’ll take you inside the latest subsea technology – with hands-on sessions at OneSubsea’s facilities at Horsøy, CCB Subsea, and TechnipFMC in Øygarden, just outside Bergen.
