Berge comes from the Norwegian Maritime Authority, which is responsible for decarbonising shipping.

Kolbjørn Berge has since he started in the Norwegian Maritime Authority in 2013 worked with safety around new green solutions and has been central in the design of current regulations both nationally and internationally.

He has been involved in numerous projects and a catalyst for the development of the regulations for the use of both LNG, batteries, hydrogen, methanol and ammonia on board ships.

Berge has also been a Norwegian delegate in the IMO (the International Maritime Organization), a representative in the European Sustainable Shipping Forum and a member of the Norwegian government's strategy committee, Maritime 21, in addition to a number of other positions.

– Kolbjørn is perhaps one of the people who has the most experience in this area worldwide. We are very happy to now have him on our team, says Halvard Hauso, Sales Director at Corvus Energy.

The industry must be proactive

Berge enters a newly created position where he will have a main responsibility for ensuring that all existing and new product lines meet requirements for safety and regulations. In addition, he will continue to participate with his professional "weight" in various professional forums, clusters, maritime organizations to help us have regulations that are adapted to the green shipping of the future.

– We are building a new industry, and the industry must be proactive and take responsibility for developing the right requirements and regulations that support development and contribute to safety and security for all. Here, Kolbjørn Berge will also have an important role globally, says Hauso.

Knows Corvus Energy well

Kolbjørn Berge has very good knowledge of Corvus Energy, the products and the organization through many years of collaboration.

– I have followed the company closely since the beginning, and have looked closely at how they drive development with a focus on continuous improvement of quality and safety. It is about professionalism, ethics and knowledge. In addition, Corvus has great ambitions, which was important for my decision to accept the position. I look forward to working further with the decarbonisation of shipping together with a fantastic team, says Kolbjørn Berge.

Prioritizes security

Everything that can be electrified will be electrified. Battery has been shown to reduce emissions and costs for almost all types of ships. Battery is also part of all future energy solutions such as fuel cells and new energy carriers.

To meet the enormous growth, it must be ensured that the products are safe, and that the regulations are developed so that the transition to green shipping takes place quickly and in a controlled manner.

By creating this new leadership position and hiring Kolbjørn Berge, who has so much experience, Corvus Energy shows that safety and leadership in the industry have the highest priority.

Kolbjørn Berge took up his position on 1 February.
