GCE Ocean Technology Receives Top Score in Cluster Management

Cluster Gold Label
Cluster Gold Label

GCE Ocean Technology (then GCE Subsea) achieved excellent result on the cluster management excellence reassessment, and was awarded with the “Cluster Organisation Management Excellence Label (Quality Label) GOLD” again in 2015.

The Gold Label certificate is given to cluster organisations that receive at least 80 per cent on the cluster management excellence score. GCE Ocean Technology (then NCE Subsea) was awarded the Gold Label of Cluster Management Excellence the first time in June 2013 with a 100 per cent score.

In December 2015 we did a re-assessment of all 31 indicators and the validity was extended for another two years.

Impressive Strategy

The assessment report particularly emphasises our efforts in the new GCE Ocean Technology strategy.

«We are impressed with the new strategy and the involvement from the companies in taking a leading position in transforming the industry in using the technical knowledge and competencies in new areas. For other clusters this should be an excellent example of how the cluster may be a driving force in a transformation process when a "crisis" occurs.»

Two independent cluster experts assessed a total of 31 quality indicators by interviewing the cluster manager and relevant staff members. The findings from the interviews must be substantiated by relevant documents provided by the cluster organisation. For each quality indicator a specific quality threshold must be passed.

About Gold Label of the European Cluster Excellence Initiative (ECEI)

Since 2009 the European Cluster Excellence Initiative (ECEI), initiated by the European Commission, DG Enterprise and Industry, have developed methodologies and tools to help cluster organisations improve their capability to manage networks and clusters.

In this context, 13 project partners from 9 countries – all highly experienced in the field of cluster management and support – have created a uniform set of cluster management quality indicators and a quality labelling system for professional cluster management.

The ‘Cluster Organisation Management Excellence Label (Quality Label) GOLD’ developed by ECEI has become an independent, voluntary proof of cluster management excellence that is accepted and recognised all over Europe and beyond. The intention is not only to make a distinction between “good” and “bad”, but also to motivate cluster managers to take part in an improvement process, to become better by comparing with others and learning from the best.

The European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis (ESCA) has been mandated by the European Cluster Excellence Initiative to organise the assessment process and to award successful cluster organisations with the Gold Label.
