The development of offshore operations is rapidly evolving, with an increased push towards remote, unmanned and autonomous operations.

The development is driven by increased efficiency, reduced costs, lower emissions and reduced human risk exposure. Testing and demonstration of new solutions are essential for innovation.

Byfjorden, outside Bergen, is already used for different testing purposes.

We see the potential to increase the amount of testing performed in the area and, by doing so, increase innovation and reduce emissions.

The project will:

  • Specify needs and describe possible stages in the development of the test area.
  • Conduct structured dialogue and clarification processes with relevant authorities; define the boundaries of the test area to ensure successful coexistence.
  • Prepare and submit applications for the release of seabed data for the test area.
  • Establish frameworks for use and propose an operational model for the area.
