Ocean Innovation Norwegian Catapult Centre

Ocean Innovation Norwegian Catapult Center (OINC) built and made available world-leading expertise and infrastructure to accelerate growth and sustainable development of the ocean industries.

The goal was to realise faster blue growth and green restructuring in the industries through efficient prototyping and verification of new technology and new solutions.

OINC focused on new technological applications and processes within the marine industries.

GCE Ocean Technology was instrumental in establishing the Ocean Innovation Catapult (OINC) that was granted by SIVA in June 2018 at the SIVA conference.

The Ocean Innovation Norwegian Catapult AS was discontinued following a rejected application for continued support from the Siva Catapult scheme in April 2025.

Project Owners Consortium consisting of GCE Ocean Technology, VIS, NCE Seafood Innovation Cluster, Prototech, Stiftelsen Industrilaboratoriet (ILAB), University of Bergen (UiB), DNV GL and Marineholmen Forskningspark. OIC is collaborating with a wide range of national and international leading companies, research institutes and test centres.
Period 2018-2025
Funding SIVA
Result
Phase 1 - Total budget of approximately 84 million NOK. Application was granted and OINC is established. The next phase in the project was to implement the strategy and business plan.

In 2024 and 2025, OINC experienced high levels of activity, with new core partners investing in and opening up test infrastructure relevant to the aquaculture industry,” the press release states.

The discontinuation is expected to prevent nearly NOK 800 million worth of newly acquired testing equipment from being made available through the centre.

OINC had also recently formalized partnerships with nodes in Finmark, Troms, and Nordland, aiming to strengthen its offerings further with support from leading actors in aquaculture and fisheries. The catapult was discontinued in 2025.
